Poor households to receive financial support to move to new places

Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung has asked the Ministry of Construction to finish a project to support poor people who wish to move into to a new house.

Around 700,000 households on the poverty line stay in slums or ragged houses, according to a national statistics released by the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee. The government’s target is to erase slums across the country by 2010.

Accordingly the Ministry of Construction must provide financial support to low-earning people, including the transportation fee to new houses. The ministry will give preferential treatment to these families in the top of welfare brackets and underprivileged ethnic minorities.

The government will give VND6-7 million (US$390) or VND7-8 million (US$450) as special loans. It calls for social contributions to the project paid through the Viet Nam Fatherland Front.
