Hanoi Electricity Corporation is initiating a pilot project to deliver information on power cuts to every household in the capital via mobile text messages until 2012.
For the time being, the electricity company will only send messages of power cuts to the residential quarter chiefs, notifying them in advance about electricity schedules and the chiefs will then inform each household in the quarter.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, head of Business Division of the corporation, said since the next few months are peak hot weather months, the demand for power will increase significantly and power cuts are inevitable.
However, to raise service quality, the corporation will inform of power cuts to help subscribers to re-schedule their activities and adapt to the power cut schedules.
Mr. Tuan said that the company would ensure that hospitals, schools and kindergartens be given high priority for power supply. Hanoi People’s Committee had earlier ordered the electric company to cut power in some districts and prioritize the supply to political and social events approved by the city administration.
The company statistics show that electricity consumption has dropped substantially as the weather has been favorable, hence power cuts will not take place for now.
Currently, text messages for notifying electricity bills and collection time are being sent to subscribers in some districts like Tay Ho, Hoan Kiem, Hoang Mai and Hai Ba Trung.
The power cut schedule will be and published in six newspapers and posted on the company website http://www.evnhanoi.com.vn.
