President fetes Hau Giang Province on its 5th birthday

The Mekong delta province of Hau Giang celebrated the fifth anniversary of its formation February 12 with President Nguyen Minh Triet and former Party leader Le Kha Phieu in attendance.

On the occasion, Mr. Triet conferred the Labor Medal, Third Class, on the province and the Labor Medal, First Class, on Nguyen Phong Quang, member of the Party Central Committee and the province’s Party secretary for Hau Giang’s achievements.

It recorded annual average economic growth of 11.8 percent, increasing its per capita income 1.6 times to VND11 million ($647) in the five years since it was carved out of the original Hau Giang Province (divided into Can Tho city and Soc Trang, and Hau Giang Provinces).

President Triet also attended the inauguration of Him Lam Primary School in Vi Thanh Commune.

The school has been built by Tran Thi Loan together with Him Lam Construction Company at a cost of VND22 billion ($1.3mil).

He exhorted its teachers to teach well and students to put in their best efforts.

He and his delegation planted trees in the school.

Later, he visited some families that are covered by the State’s preferential policies.
