President Nguyen Minh Triet Meets Asian Football Confederation President

President Nguyen Minh Triet gives a souvenir to Mr. Mohamed Bin Hammam, President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

President Nguyen Minh Triet had a meeting yesterday with Mr. Mohamed Bin Hammam, President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) who is in Viet Nam for the duration of the first Group B 2007 Asian Cup football match between Viet Nam and the United Arab Emirates.

President Triet stressed how the Vietnamese national teams are striving for regional and international success and how football is becoming an increasingly popular sport in Viet Nam.

Mr. Mohamed Bin Hammam congratulated Viet Nam on their impressive development in football over the past few years. The Viet Nam national football team has managed to enter the third qualifying round of the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2007 ASEAN Cup.

The AFC is committed to supporting Vietnamese football both financially and technically, he said.

The 2007 Asian Cup is currently being co-hosted by Viet Nam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
