Private vehicles to pay annual charge: Ministry

The Ministry of Transport has submitted to the Government a proposal to charge an annual fee for ownership of a private vehicle in the country, in an attempt to curb an increase in the number of privately owned vehicles.

Private vehicles of less than nine-seater capacity and motorcycles will be charged an ownership fee which will increase by five per cent every subsequent year.

A toll fee has also been proposed on vehicles plying within the city centre during peak hours. Accordingly, a seven-seater car will pay a maximum of VND30,000 a trip, while fee for other cars is expected to be VND50,000.
