The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development yesterday said that the first phase of compensation is set for those who are directly affected by the environment pollution in 17 communes of Bo Trach, Ba Don, Quang Trach, Dong Hoi, Quang Ninh and Le Thuy districts.

The province has instructed local authorities to ensure transparency and justice while paying the compensation.

Quang Binh is one of the four north central province besides Thua-Thien Hue, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh which have been badly affected by the Formosa disaster. The three other provinces have started giving locals the indemnity.

Formosa has transferred US$500 million in compensation for the sea pollution to the Vietnamese government who has been paying affected citizens.
