The People’s Committee in the central province of Quang Nam has proposed to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to instruct hydropower plants along the Vu Gia and Thu Bon Rivers to release water for farmers to sow rice.

Farmers desperately need water to till the parched land and sow 15,000 hectares of winter-spring rice in Quang Nam Province.

The People’s Committee has suggested that if the A Vuong, Dak Mi 4, Song Tranh 2 and Song Con Hydropower Plants release a certain volume of water from December 20 to January 10, farmers will be able to begin sowing the next rice crop.

After January 10, all the above plants will temporarily stop releasing water in order to fill up their reservoirs, and release more water in the next phase to irrigate the maturing rice.
