Quang Ngai Province to build tombstone for Hoang Sa Flotilla captain

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the central province of Quang Ngai has begun the construction of a tombstone for Pham Huu Nhat, a hero captain of Hoang Sa Flotilla, in An Vinh Commune of Ly Son District.

Pham Huu Nhat had on many occasions led naval officers to survey, measure and build milestones in Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago under the rule of King Minh Mang during the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century.

The commemorative tombstone will be constructed over an area of 60 square meters located near the sovereign relic site of Hoang Sa Archipelago on Ly Son Island.

Pham Huu Nhat went missing at sea during a trip to Hoang Sa Islands. To commemorate him on the Island a memorial stele was set up in March 2005.
