Rains, landslides in central province threaten lives

Torrential rains in the central province of Quang Ngai have triggered floods and landslides in many places, threatening people’s lives.

Hung Vuong, Le Trung Dinh, and Nguyen Thuy Streets in Quang Ngai city are under 0.5m of water following two days of heavy rains. Some roads near dikes have been closed down.

The water levels in rivers have risen above the third warning level and continue to rise.

Quang Ngai Province’s Tay Tra District has been placed on alert for flash floods and landslides.

A landslide at the Hai Van Tunnel site held up two north-south trains for one hour yesterday.

Another has blocked a section of the Tra Bong-Tay Tra road, slowing traffic to a crawl.

A crack in the mountain near Tra Quan village threatens the lives of 18 families.

Around 800 residents have to be evacuated from this landslide-prone area, according to the Tay Tra Steering Board for Flood Prevention and Control.
