The project on importing sturgeon breeds from the Aquaculture Research Institute for Aquaculture No 1, under the Ministry of Fisheries, will be implemented by the central highlands province of Lam Dong. The province will pilot fish breeding in Lang Bian Plateau with the total aquatic area of 25 hectares, said Mr. Le Thanh Luu, director of the institute.
He added that the northern provinces of Hai Duong and Lao Cai have initially seen considerable results after applying the said model. Some foreign companies also plan to invest in sturgeon breeding in Viet Nam.
These fish, which are of high economic values and can easily adapt to cold climate, are very popular in Russia and all over the world. The value of one hectare of Russian sturgeon is equal to 1,000 hectares of other fish in the delta.
