Se San Power Plant's First Turbine Begins Operation

The first of two turbines at the Se San 3A hydro-electric power plant, located in the Grai District of the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, began generating electricity this morning.

The first turbine of the Se San 3A power plant begins operation today

Since construction started in April 2003, the plant has been fitted with thousands of tons of equipment representing a total investment of more than VND1.8 trillion (over US$1.2 million) by the Se San 3A Investment and Development Company.

The power plant has a total output capacity of 108 MW. Upon its completion, the plant is expected to generate an annual output of more than 479 million kWh.

After 72 hours of operation and adjustment, the first turbine will join the national power grid.

The commissioning of the first turbine represents a confirmation of the competence of local companies involved in the construction, assembly, and operation of such a large project.

The second turbine is scheduled to join the national grid at the end of the third quarter of 2007.
