SGGP newspapers gives 10 tons of rice to support flood-hit people

To release difficulties of flood-hit people in the central province of Ha Tinh, representatives from Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper yesterday gave seven tons of rice to residents in Commune Loc Yen and three tons of rice to inhabitants in Commune Huong Trach.

The amount of rice is supported by an enterprise in the Mekong delta province of Tien Giang and Railway Company transport gratis to the central province.

Deputy Party Secretary in Commune Loc Yen Nguyen Khac Huynh said that flood lasting from October 14 to 16 injured six people, destroying 1,628 houses, and constructions. Additionally, flood swept away oxen, pigs and cocks. Worse, thousands of grapefruit – specialities of the Commune – along Ngan Sau River were blown down in the flood  driving farmers into despair.

Similarly,  around 23,700 pomelo trees in Coomune Huong  Trach were swept in the flood, said Chairman of People Committee in Commune Huong Trach  Cao Viet Hoa, and loss is estimated around VND32 billion. Inhabitants cleared mud and cleaned houses yet the commune needs expenditure for construction of infrastructure, roads, sewages, seeds and fertilizer.

A representative from Le Bao Minh Company also contributed VND500 million to help repairing houses for residents in the two communes.

On the same afternoon, the mission team arrived in Cua Sot Harbor in Commune Thach Kim in District Loc Ha in Ha Tinh Province to give 10 gifts each worth VND2 million to 10 low-income families badly affected by environmental scandal caused by a steel plant subsidiary of Taiwan's Formosa Plastics Group in central Vietnam.
