South Africa opens honorary consul office in HCM City

The South African Embassy in Vietnam opened the honorary consul office in Ho Chi Minh City on Dec.10.

South African President Jacob Zuma appointed Do Thi Kim Lien, CEO of the AAA insurance joint stock company, as the first Honorary Consul of South Africa in the city.

Addressing the launching ceremony, the South African Ambassador to Vietnam , Ratubatsi Super Moloi, said the office is founded following a recent visit to Ho Chi Minh City by the Johannesburg Governor, Amos Masondo during which the two sides inked a memorandum of understanding of cooperation and friendship.

This demonstrates the willingness of both cities to increase their ties for a more developed relationship between the two countries, said Moloi.

Ho Chi Minh City is a major economic centre of Vietnam and the honorary consular of South Africa bears the responsibility of exploring and promoting trade and investment opportunities for businesses from South Africa as well as providing consular services for its citizens who are living and working in the city, Ambassador Ratubatsi Super Moloi added.

Newly appointed Honorary Consul Do Thi Kim Lien pledged to work for the benefits of the South African community in Ho Chi Minh City , urban and suburban alike, and to do her utmost to develop the economic cooperation between South Africa and Vietnam.
