State President asks Nghe An to step up rural development

State President Truong Tan Sang met with leaders of the central province of Nghe An on September 7 and emphasized the need to strengthen the ongoing rural renovation program.

Leaders at the meeting held in Nghe An Province discussed the implementation of the 11th Party Congress Resolution, the socio-economic growth, national security policies, improve the quality of justice and the living conditions of ethnic minority groups in the mountainous areas of Nghe An.

President Sang said Nghe An Province played an important role during the last war. The central city of Vinh has gradually become the leading economic hub of the North Central region.

Nevertheless, people living in the remote, rural and mountainous areas are still struggling for a living. Agricultural production has been badly affected from both disease and bad weather. The province thus needs to focus on more manufacturing to move forward.

The province should create effective economic models to fight against poverty in the west of Nghe An Province and offer more support to fishermen working offshore. Apart from this, the government should encourage investments in the agricultural sector, particularly in disadvantaged areas.
