State President Meets Chinese Friendship Group

State President Nguyen Minh Triet on May 16 received 50 Chinese visitors in the country for a Vietnamese-Chinese friendship get-together called “a meeting in Uncle Ho’s home land”.

The Chinese delegation comprises those who directly served President Ho Chi Minh when he lived and worked in China, along with officials working at President Ho Chi Minh memorial sites and former Chinese ambassadors to Viet Nam .

President Triet hailed the Union of Vietnam Friendship Organisations, the Viet Nam-China Friendship Association, the Chinese People’s Diplomacy Friendship Association and the China-Vietnam Friendship Association for organising the event that honours those who offered service to Viet Nam .

He said the Party, State and people of Viet Nam always bear in mind the ongoing support and assistance by the Chinese Party, State and people to the revolutionary cause of the Vietnamese nation.

“ Viet Nam places importance on consolidating and developing traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with China under the guidelines and spirit set forth by both countries,” the State President said.

At the reception, President Triet expressed his sympathy to China for the great loss of lives and property caused by the earthquake in Sichuan .

Vice President of the China-ASEAN Frienship Association, Wang Yun Ze, told his host the visit aims to contribute to further promoting the relations between the parties, states and people of China and Viet Nam .

He said furthering the China-Viet Nam traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation in all fields is an aspiration of both countries and of Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong, who laid the foundation for the relationship between the two countries.

During their nine-day visit, the Chinese guests will take part in the “meeting in Uncle Ho’s home land” in central Nghe An province on May 19, which also marks the 118 th anniversary of the late President’s birth. They will leave on May 23.

On the day, President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations Vu Xuan Hong presented the insignia “For peace and friendship between nations” to 39 Chinese persons who served President Ho Chi Minh and have had broad involvement in bolstering the relationship between the two countries.
