Swiss energy firm Aerogie.plus Solutions AG will start work on a wind power station on Con Dao Island at the beginning of next year, the company announced at a meeting in Vung Tau Tuesday.
The 7.5MW plant, to cost 20 million euro (US$26 million), will be ready to go on stream in 2010 and provide the island district of Ba Ria Vung Tau Province electricity for 30 years.
It will be the first wind energy plant in Vietnam.
The Swiss company has pledged to help the southern province upgrade the island's current diesel-powered generators. The island has only four such generators with combined capacity of 3MW, which supply electricity for islanders and fish processing facilities.
