Three dead, 48 injured in scaffold collapse

Three people died and 48 others were injured when a scaffold at a construction site of a church in Dong Hy District in the northern province of Thai Nguyen suddenly collapsed on January 17.
 
While 100 Catholic devotees were pouring concrete, the scaffold suddenly gave way and collapsed, injuring 51 people. The General Hospital in the province announced that three of the victims had died while 48 others suffered injuries.
 
In the afternoon of the same day, representatives of People’s Council and People’s Committee and the Red Cross visited the injured in the hospital and offered support. Families of the dead victims received support of VND7 million (US$336) each and the injured were given VND2 million ($96) each.

The Chairman of the People’s Committee sent an urgent request to the local government asking for support for the victims and their families.
