Torrential rains & cyclones damage many houses in Mekong Delta ​

Torrential rains and cyclones just hit the Mekong delta city of Can Tho and blew away the roof of 97 houses, said the city Committee for Natural disaster prevention and control said this morning.

The cyclones swept over Thoi Lai district, destroyed 3 houses and unroofed 20 others with total estimated damages of VND 290million.

Earlier, at 10am on July 11, heavy rains and whirlwinds collapsed 12 houses and unroofed 84 others. Total damages were estimated to reach over VND 1billion.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nguyet (Photo), from Can Tho Fatherland Front Committee visited effected households at Thoi Lai and Co Do districts. She gave VND 37million to hit- families with VND 5million each.

Torrential rains and whirlwinds also hit Vinh Hai and Lac Hoa communes, Vinh Chau district of the Mekong delta province of Soc Trang. 17 houses were collapsed. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Heavy rains on the large-scale covered over the province of Bac Lieu. High tides and rainfall flooded also hectares of the autumn-summer rice crops in the province.

Bac Lieu authorities have implemented several solutions to save the rice and recommended local people to prevent flooding actively.
