Transport Ministry speeds up major traffic projects

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The yesterday presided over a meeting to inspect and speed up the progress of national key traffic projects drawing much public attention.

Currently, investors have coordinated with authorized agencies to make a report on environmental impact estimation caused by the project of North-South Expressway in the phase of 2017-2020.
To hasten the project, Minister Nguyen Van The required authorized agencies to complete feasibility study documents of Cao Bo-Mai Son, Cam Lo-La Son, Dau Giay-Phan Thiet, Ninh Binh-Nghi Son, Nghi Son-Bai Vot, Mai Son-Highway 45 stretches in May this year.
The remaining member projects must complete feasibility study before July 31.
The ministry will soon submit to the Prime Minister a compensation and resettlement frame for residents in the expressway project area.
About nonstop road toll collection implementation, information at the meeting said that 24 out of 37 stations in National Highway 1A and Ho Chi Minh Highway in the Central Highlands are subject to the first phase of the project.
Of these, 15 stations have been put into operation, nine are being installed and will function by the end of the first quarter this year. Other stations are under contract negotiation and progress building phase, scheduled to come into operation before December 31.
Minister The has required service providers and investors to apply one nonstop toll collection technology for all projects, ensure security to prevent e-tag fabrication and have a mechanism to spot and handle the issue.
He asked the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam to work with service providers and investors to implement electronic toll collection at the remaining Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) toll booths to ensure the roadmap according to Decision 07/2017 by the Prime Minister to hand over and function nonstop toll stations nationwide.
