U.S. Ambassador to Viet Nam Michael W. Marine handed a credit guarantee certificate from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Eximbank) to Vietnam Airlines chairman Nguyen Sy Hung on Wednesday.

Eximbank has made a preliminary commitment to provide Vietnam Airlines with US$400 million to support the purchase of four Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners and engines.

“I am extremely pleased to announce Eximbank’s approval of this preliminary commitment to finance Vietnam Airlines’ acquisition of four state-of-the-art, U.S.-manufactured Boeing aircraft,” Mr. Marine said.

“This transaction will facilitate increased business and leisure travel to and from Viet Nam, thereby contributing to the further economic growth of Viet Nam.  It’s a win for both countries.”

In 2003 and 2004, Eximbank financed the purchase of four Boeing 777-200ER aircraft by Vietnam Airlines.
