US extends visa validity

The American Embassy in Hanoi announced May 4 that the US has extended the visa validity for Vietnamese non-immigrant visa holders from one entry/three months to multiple entry/twelve months.

These longer validity visas, effective on April 22, 2009, are issued for transit aliens; crewmen; temporary workers and trainees; information media representatives; intra-company transferees; non-academic students; aliens with extraordinary ability; athletes, artists, and entertainers; and aliens in religious occupations.

The US Embassy said these visas will give visa holders greater flexibility in conducting international travel from the US to third countries, and will lessen the time and costs associated with renewing expired visas.

The embassy added that the new rule will also facilitate Vietnamese citizens who are employed by US companies and make it significantly easier for Vietnamese sailors to work on vessels calling at US ports.
