US Senator Sheldon WhiteHouse yesterday issued a declaration on the 20th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States, underlining that 20 years of normalized relations is a historic milestone for the two countries.
The declaration described that since establishment of normalization of diplomatic relations, Vietnam and the US have overcome consequences during wartime, and develop the relation between two countries as partnership and friendship.
Today, the US and the Vietnamese people can be proud of the progress made to forge a lasting peace and friendship.
Besides, US Senator also stressed that the visit to the United States by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam is considered as the historic visit.
In the context of promoting the relation, both sides need to continue to solve consequences such as health and environmental effect of Agent Orange and other herbicides.
