US$100,000 Cell Phones Added to Luxury Goods Now in Viet Nam

Viet Nam’s FPT Corporation has imported two Vertu mobile phones from the UK worth US$100,000 each.

The two phones have covers made of gold and 943 diamonds encrusted in the keyboard of one while the other one has 923 diamonds in its body.

Mobile phone maker Vertu and FPT have opened the first Vertu showroom in Ha Noi at the Melia Hotel to distribute Vertu’s Signature, Ascent Ti and Constellation phones.

With Viet Nam having seen vigorous economic growth in recent years, mobile phones are no longer a rarity but are used by people from all walks of life and cars have started flooding its streets.

By last month, 10,110 automobiles had been imported this year, up 167% over last year.

Luxury SUVs have also made their appearances. Late last year, an unnamed businessman in Ho Chi Minh City bought a DaimlerChrysler Maybach 62 for over US$1 million.

Recently, Le Hoang Anh, CEO of Shiseido Viet Nam Cosmetics brought home a US$450,000 Bentley Continental Flying Spur.
