Viet Nam Backs Myanmar’s National Reconciliation

A Vietnamese senior government official said the country supports the Myanmar government’s bid towards national reconciliation and its cooperation with the international community, including the UN and the ASEAN.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem made the affirmation at his meeting with Secretariat Member of Myanmar’s Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA) and Minister of Information Major-General Kyaw Hsan in Hanoi on August 5.

He sympathised with his guest over the Myanmar people’s sufferings from Cyclone Nargis and said he hoped the people and country will overcome the disastrous consequences and continue with national development efforts.

The Myanmar minister thanked the Vietnamese government and people for relief aid to Nargis victims in his country.

He also thanked Vietnam for supporting Myanmar in building a nation of peace, stability and development in its role in the UN Security Council non-permanent member.

Myanmar wishes to learn from Vietnam’s national building experience, he said, adding that he appreciated the consolidated friendship between the two countries.
