It also estimates Viet Nam to be short of 8.6 billion kwh of power next year, up from 6.6 billion this year. In 2009, the shortage is expected to climax to 10.3 billion kwh.
The survey was presented at a recent conference on raising awareness and economizing on power at schools organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in central Da Nang City.
In related news, last week in southern Binh Thuan province, the US$440 million Dai Ninh Hydropower Plant started to put its first 150MW-capacity generator into operation. Its second generator is expected to join the national grid before the Lunar New Year holiday, which falls on February 7.
Being the second largest hydropower plant on the Dong Nai River after Tri An, Dai Ninh - built since May 2003 - can generate nearly 1.2 billion kwh.
