Viet Nam Focuses Relief Efforts for Xangsane Tragedy

Viet Nam is making all-out efforts to recover from the Typhoon Xangsane tragedy, which struck Da Nang city and other areas of the central and Central Highlands provinces.

General Secretary Nong Duc Manh sent his condolences to the victim families of Typhoon Xangsane in the central provinces on Monday, expressing his hope that they will recover from the consequences of this disaster.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked local authorities at a cabinet regular meeting on the same day to actively prevent and control flood and landslides as well as give full support to victims’ families.

Mr. Jonathan M.Aloisi, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the U.S. Embassy in Ha Noi expressed his sympathy to Xangsane victims, saying the US is willing to support any relief effort of Viet Nam.

The Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front held a campaign to raise funds for Xangsane victims, and has so far collected VND3.816 billion.

The Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper has given VND50 million to the hardest-hit city of Da Nang.
