Viet Nam Joins UN General Assembly’s Special Session on AIDS

The UN General Assembly’s Special Session on AIDS (UNGASS) started at the UN headquarters in New York today on May 31.

Participants will review the results of implementing the UN General Assembly resolution on HIV/AIDS in 2001 and reaffirm its members’ commitment to stepping up HIV/AIDS prevention.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem led a senior delegation to the summit on May 29. The Viet Nam delegation will take part in 5 roundtable seminars to exchanged effective measures, especially its experience in preventing the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The delegation also contributed to the session’s final political declaration.

The conference lasts from May 31 to June 3 with the participation of 132 delegates, including government leaders, ministers and seniors officials of the UN and international organizations.
