Viet Nam Praises Agreement of Group of Asian Countries

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Dung

Asked about Viet Nam’s reaction towards the agreement by the Group of Asian Countries at the United Nations on October 27 to nominate Viet Nam as its sole non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2008-09, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Dzung replied on October 30:

“Viet Nam highly appreciates the decision of the Group of Asian Countries at the United Nations on October 27 to nominate Viet Nam as its only non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2008-09.

The decision shows the group’s recognition and acclamation of Viet Nam’s contributions to and efforts in all UN projects.

Since becoming a full member of the UN in 1977, Viet Nam has delivered on its commitments to the aims and principles of the UN Charter, fulfilling all the duties and responsibilities of a member nation and making significant contributions to the UN’s operations.

Being a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2008-09 would facilitate conditions for Viet Nam to boost its contributions to the aims of the UN to preserve and enhance peace and security in the world.”
