VietJet fined VND40 million for bikini show on flight carrying U23 footballers

Low-cost carrier VietJet has been fined VND40 million ($1,760) for a bikini performance without permission on plane carrying U23 footballers home from the 2018 AFC U23 Championship in China on January 28.

The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAA) decided to issue the fine to the carrier after its meeting yesterday to re-consider the case.
Head flight attendant on flight VJ7269 was fined VND4 million ($176) also because of not reporting the case to the flight captain. Moreover, managing director also received written warning as per the Transport Ministry’s circular No.85/2015/TT issued on December 31, 2015 and the aviation regulation.
Though the in-flight performance did not lead to unsafe conditions, it was a potential threat to flight safety and therefore the airline had been fined in accordance with the aviation regulations and the government’s edict No.147/2013/ND-CP issued on October 30, 2013.
Before, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism has sent its document to the inspectorate, asking to issue punishment on VietJet after the carrier has drawn a storm of criticism when a clip of bikini performance for gross indecency on the airline’s Changzhou-Hanoi flight carrying the U23 footballers.
The Ministry asked inspectors to send its report to the Minister before January 31.
