Vietnam affirms no ‘Formaldehyde’ in domestic vegetables

The Plant Protection Bureau under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development announced they have not found any traces of ‘Formaldehyde’ in vegetables being traded and produced in the country.

Local vegetables selling in the market are safe and free of ‘Formaldehyde’, said the bureau.

After news that Chinese cabbage contained ‘Formaldehyde’ to keep it remaining fresh in transit, the Plant Protection Bureau has stepped up checking of the chemical substance in fresh fruits and vegetables entering the country.

Nguyen Xuan Hong, head of the Plant Protection Bureau, said they had conducted tests on 74 samples of cabbages, cauliflowers and other vegetables for ‘Formaldehyde’ content.
