Vietnam Airlines to Fly to US in 2007

Vietnam Airlines plans to operate direct flights between Viet Nam and the US, begining in the second quarter next year.

The destinations will be cities on the US West Coast like Los Angeles, San Francisco and others, home to many overseas Vietnamese. From the hubs passengers will take domestic flights to 14 cities with American Airlines, said Mr. Pham Ngoc Minh, deputy managing director of Viet Nam Airlines.

Viet Nam Airlines planned an earlier begining but could not complete negotiations with some airports for the transit of Viet Nam-US flights.

At present, the carrier is operating code-share flights with American Airlines, the US biggest airline, between the two countries via Paris, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Osaka.
