Vietnam attends ASEAN ministerial meeting on sports

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Khanh Hai is leading a delegation to attend the 2nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS), which opened in Vientiane, Laos on December 5.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thamnavong stressed the Lao Government encourages and supports the organisation of sporting events, adding that the country considers sports a task for the whole Lao society.

He said the government has implemented the strategic plan to boost the development of sporting activities, focusing on improving the physical fitness and morale of its people, while participating actively in sports in the region in order to strengthen solidarity, friendship and cooperation with international friends.

The PM highlighted the important role played by the AMMS in promoting the development of human resources in sports in ASEAN member nations.

He also called on participants to make more contributions to successfully implement the meeting’s theme “Sports for cooperation, friendship, peace and development”.
