Vietnam celebrates World Statistics Day

At a press conference yesterday in Hanoi, Deputy Director of the General Statistics Office (GSO) Vu Thanh Liem said that the United Nation decided to chose October 20, 2015 is the World Statistics Day themed “ Better Data, Better Lives”.

He said that the World Statistics Day aims to raise public awareness about the important work of statisticians. Accurate and objective data will support national and international activities, including efforts to improve the lives of low-income and vulnerable groups.

The day has been held in over 100 nations and this is the second time the UN held a meeting to mark the special day. The first event was held on October 20, 2010 in over 130 nations and territories worldwide.

In the Southeast Asian country, the statistic sector contributed greatly to population survey and housing program and other important programs. They will hold a meeting to celebrate the sector’s 70th establishment anniversary October 20, 1946 to October 20, 1916.

According to Director of the GSO’s Statistical Standard Methodology and IT Department Tran Tuan Hung, some important contents of the statistic law which will be submitted to the upcoming National Assembly.
