Vietnam holds Chairmanship of ASEAN Committee in Mexico

Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Hoai Duong received a role of Chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee in Mexico City (ACMC) on January 16.

The Vietnamese ambassador pledged to promote ACMC’s activities, multifaceted cooperation relations with Mexico in the fields of economy, trade, investment and culture, as well as strengthen cooperation relations with the Pacific Alliance comprising Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru. 

At the new- appointed ceremony, the ambassadors and diplomats of ASEAN countries as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam appraised the process of ACMC in 2018 and propose specific plans in 2019.

The ambassadors reaffirmed the establishment of the ASEAN Community in 2015 have created important and practical benefits to each member country, and contributed to further enhance the position and central role of ASEAN in the region.

Statistics from the Ministry of Economy of Mexico showed that trade turnover between Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam with Mexico hit increases by 10 percent per year and reached US$ 25.51 billion in 11 months of 2018, with a surplus of US$ 21.51 billion toward Southeast Asian countries.
