Vietnam, Japan promote comprehensive cooperation in agriculture field

President Truong Tan Sang, his wife, and delegation landed the Haneda International Airport of Tokyo, Japan to begin a state visit to Japan according to invitation of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko on March 16.

Deputy Minister of Japanese Foreign Affairs Ishihara, Japanese Ambassador in Vietnam Fukuda and his wife, and the Japanese protocol department welcomed delegation at the airport.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Doan Xuan Hung, his wife, the staffs of Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of Vietnamese students in Japan also welcomed Vietnamese State delegation at the airport.

The welcoming committee held a ceremony shooting 21 battery salvoes as the delegation stepped out of the aircraft. This is a sign of respect and friendly relations between Vietnam and Japan.

President Sang affirmed the Japan is one of Vietnam’s most important partners in the all fields. Both countries have maintained frequent meetings to strengthen relations.

Participation between the countries

The two countries have cooperated actively in the multilateral forum in the region and around the world, including in the framework of the Mekong region, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Asia -Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), United Nations (UN) and others.

Vietnam also supported Japan to participate in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) and cooperates closely with Japan during the negotiation process.

“Trust in policy, similarity in culture, great achievements of two countries’ cooperation in the past 40 years are a solid foundation and motivation to continue to develop bilateral relationship between two countries in the next time,” said President Sang.

Entering the country

After coming to the airport, President Truong Tan Sang and his delegation visited the agricultural models in Ibaraki prefecture, which is considered as one of the prefectures with the largest potential for agricultural product in Japan.

President Truong Tan Sang also attended in Research Centre for agriculture of Ibaraki prefecture. He visited high-tech greenhouses where new varieties of paddy, strawberries and roses are grown. He visited and spoke to farmers at Asahi fresh vegetable processing plant.

The President also had a meeting with the Governor of Ibaraki Hasimoto Masaru to emphasize important content for promoting comprehensive cooperation in the agricultural sector between the two countries.

Ibaraki is well-known as a science and technology center and one of outstanding agricultural processing areas in Japan, said President Sang. He visited Ibaraki and aims to learn agricultural technologies and ways of Japanese agricultural production.

President Truong Tan Sang affirmed that Vietnam is ready to create the most favorable conditions for the Japanese investors in general and the investors of Ibaraki prefecture in particular in the field of agriculture.

After the meeting

After the meeting, President Sang and Governor Hasimoto Masaru attended a signing ceremony for agricultural cooperation agreement between Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ibaraki prefecture.

An official welcoming ceremony to President Truong Tan Sang and his delegation will be held at Japan Royal Palace on March 17 with participation of Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.

Later on, President Truong Tan Sang will participate in an opening ceremony at Vietnam- Japan Business Forum. The ceremony will be attended by leaders of Japanese business Federation- Keidanren and 20 major Japanese groups.
