A workshop under title “ASEAN safe, Nutritious Food Public–private Partnership Initivative” was held in capital city of Hanoi yesterday.

CropLife Asia, the Europe- ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) and the United States- ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) co- organized the workshop with the participation of 50 representatives from Vietnamese government agencies including the Ministry of Industry and Trade, key regional and international partners in the food production chain and international experts.

At the workshop, the parties focused on contents related to the topic “From farm to table”.

Earlier, the first workshop of the initivative had taken place in Thailand on March 25.

Mr. Chris Humphrey, Director of EU-ABC emphasized that this initivative had an important strategy, being launched by three among key global business associations operating in the Southeast Asia.Therefore, it is neccessary to promote cooperation between governments and the private businesses in order to ensure safe food for people and standards for export and trade.

According to former US Ambassador to Vietnam, Vice President cum Regional Executive Director of US-ASEAN Michael Michalak, co-operation of the related parties in the food value chain is urgent to solve safe food concerns being more and more paid attention in Vietnam towards one of 15 countries with the most developed agricultural sector worldwide within the next 10 years. 

The business associations and their members are committed to cooperate with the Vietnamese Government to achieve this ambitious vision and to ensure that Vietnamese citizens have a safe and nutritious food supply chains, added he. 

The workshop included working sessions to discuss advanced practical models, strengths and limitations of each component in the food value chain in Vietnam.

After every discussion, representatives of public and private partners continue to work and focus on potential fields which the parties can continue to cooperate and create common benefits. Besides that, there have been important contents including the ability as Vietnamese farmers produce safe and nutritious food, Vietnamese consumers' awareness and related actions towards safe and nutritious food sources.
