Vietnam rice exports top 2.2 mil tons

Vietnam has exported 711,000 tons of rice in April for US$296 million taking the total for this year to 2.29 million tons and $935 million.

At present, the prices of unprocessed rice are pretty high. It depends on the quality of rice. Generally, a kilogram of rice is sold at VND4,500-4,700.

The price of the first grade rice fetch VND5,800 - 5,820 per kilogram while the second is VND5,700 -5,720 at different provinces.

A kilo of brown rice with five percent broken rice fetches VND7,350 – 7,370 while brown rice with 15 percent broken rice pulls in VND6,800 – 6,820.

Farmers in the south central region have harvested 173,000 hectares of rice, getting yields of 57 -58 quintals a hectare, or seven quintals higher than a year ago.
