Vietnam, Singapore strengthen further cooperation

State President Truong Tan Sang yesterday had a meeting with the Singaporean National Assembly Chairwoman Halimah Yacob, on the occasion of her official visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, State President Truong Tan Sang expressed his pleasure for good cooperative relations between Singapore and Vietnam in previous years; especially, since the bilateral relation between the two countries has become a strategic partnership.
 
Vietnam always has attached importance to stepping up cooperative relation with Singapore, and appreciated important role of the country in ASEAN. In order to promote further the relationship, the president suggested both Vietnam and Singapore will continue to organize high-level talks between two countries’ National Assembly.
 
Singaporean NA chairwoman Halimah Yacob thanked the President for the meeting and his condolence to Singapore on the death of the founding father Lee Kuan Yew (Ly Quang Dieu).

Currently, Singapore becomes one of the top three foreign investors in Viet Nam. Singapore invested US$ 32 billion into five industrial parks in Vietnam. The Singaporean private enterprises are looking forward to opening two additional industrial parks in Vietnam, said chairwoman Halimah Yacob.
 
On the occasion, the Singaporean NA chairwoman also added that the Singapore People Association has always strengthened the cooperation with the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, creating a foundation for the expansion of cooperative relation and friendship between two countries’ people.
 
Receiving invitation of Vietnam National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Singaporean National Assembly high- ranking delegate led by Halimah Yacob visited Hanoi on April 2. On the same day, a solemn welcome ceremony for the Singapore NA chairwoman was held at the house of the national assembly under chairmanship of Nguyen Sinh Hung. After the welcome ceremony, two leaders and delegates met in the talk.

Speaking at the talk, Chairman Hung stressed that Vietnam and Singapore need to continue to not only organize high- level meetings to tighten further cooperation relation between two countries in the fields of culture, trade, security and defense but also create favorable conditions in attracting investment and pushing two ways trade turnover of Vietnam and Singapore up to over US$ 9,8billion.
 
Two leaders agreed to promote cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore within the framework of regional and international inter- parliamentary forums.
 
On the same day, Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a talk to the Singapore NA chairwoman Halimah Yacob. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung proposed Vietnam and Singapore give priority to their economic partnership and the PM asked Singapore to accelerate the construction of the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) 6 in central Nghe An province and the VSIP 7 in northern Hai Duong province.
