Vietnam to invest over VND193 trillion in new rural plan

At least VND193,155 billion (US$ 8.5 billion) will be allocated to build disadvantaged districts as per the governmental new rural plan for the period 2016-2020, said the Plan’s Coordinating Office said on November 26 in its seminar to promote the plan.

Of the amount, VND63, 155 billion (US$ 2.7 billion) is taken from the government’s budget and VND130,000 billion is from localities’ budget.

By November, the country has 10 districts and 1,298 communes have been recognized to complete standard of the governmental new rural plan; yet it is a real difficulty for disadvantaged and distant districts to reach the target.

Nguyen Minh Tien, deputy chief of the Coordinating Office said that out of 10,000 communes in the country, around 2,535 remote communes which are able to finish 5 standards of the plan. Average per capita income of these communes is VND14.07 million (US$622) a year and the rate of poverty households in these communes is 18.56 percent.
