A Vatican delegation is due in Vietnam next week for talks on issues relating to the establishment of ties between the two sides, according to the Vietnamese foreign ministry spokesman, Le Dzung.

The talks, the first of its kind for the Vietnam-Vatican Joint Working Group, will take place in Hanoi on February 16 and 17, the spokesman said on February 11, replying to a Vietnamese News Agency query on the Vatican delegation’s forthcoming visit.
This demonstrates Vietnam ’s response to the Vatican ’s request regarding the issue in accordance with its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, Dzung said.
According to Mr. Dzung, the Vietnamese delegation attending the meeting will be led by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Cuong, while the Vatican dignitary delegation will be headed by Undersecretary of State for Relations with States Pietro Parolin.
