Vietnam-Cambodia Trade Fair 2012 a success

On December 11, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and related departments evaluated the results of the Vietnam-Cambodia 2012 Trade Fair held recently held in Battambang Province in Cambodia.

According to the Center for the Promotion of Trade and Investment in HCMC (ITPC), the number of visitors to the fair were approximately 500,000 and sales were around US$2.9 million.

A number of Vietnamese companies such as Kinh Do, Acecook and Vissan made huge profits.

Besides commercial activities, Vietnamese businesses also found distributors or dealers in Battambang Province in particular and the region of Northwest Cambodia in general to market Vietnamese products in Cambodia.

This is the fourth HCMC organized trade fair in Battambang Province, one of the largest trade promotion activities of HCMC abroad, and important for expanding the market for Vietnamese commodities in Cambodia.

In related news, eight border gate economic zones will receive huge development investments from the State budget between 2013 and 2015.

Under a plan recently approved by the Prime Minister, beneficiaries are Mong Cai border gate EZ in Quang Ninh Province, Dong Dang-Lang Son border gate EZ in Lang Son Province, Lao Cai border EZ in Lao Cai Province, and Cau Treo border EZ in Ha Tinh Province.

They also include Lao Bao special EZ in Quang Tri Province, Bo Y international border gate EZ in Kon Tum Province, Moc Bai border gate EZ in Tay Ninh, and An Giang border gate EZ in An Giang Province.

The PM asked relevant ministries and provinces to propose a list of priority areas in dire need of investment to make these EZs operate more efficiently.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) will work with other ministries and designated localities to allocate at least 70 percent of needed capital from the State budget to develop infrastructure at these EZs.

The MPI was assigned to monitor the implementation of the plan and report the results to the PM.

Earlier, the PM selected five coastal economic zones to receive development investments from the State budget from 2013-2015.
