Vietnamese, Lao NA Leaders Seek Enhanced Bilateral Ties

Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and his Lao counterpart Thongsing Thamavong held talks yesterday to discuss measures to boost the cooperation between the two legislative bodies as well as to foster the special relationship between the two countries.

The Vietnamese NA chairman arrived in Laos yesterday as the first step of his visits to two neighboring countries, Laos and Cambodia.
 
At the talks, the two NA leaders agreed that the two assemblies would closer cooperate in order to urge the governments and agencies to implement treaties and agreements that the two countries have inked.
 
The two sides would intensify their exchange of information and experiences in law-making, supervising and other legislative activities.
 
After their talks, the two NA leaders signed an agreement for cooperation between the two NAs. They agreed to further cooperation and experience exchange in various forms of activities such as exchanging delegations, organizing conferences and workshops, coordinating at regional and international forums, and assisting each other in training personnel.
 
Talking with press after the signing ceremony, Chairman Trong said the agreement would be an important foundation for the cooperation between the two legislature bodies. He also stressed that the two sides should translate this agreement into concrete plans of action.
 
The same day, Chairman Trong paid a courtesy visit to the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party General Secretary and President Choumaly Sayasone.
 
The Lao leader affirmed that the Lao Party and State would do their utmost to reinforce the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, particularly to intensify education of traditions for young generations.
 
In this meeting with Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, Chairman Trong said the two countries have formed fine relations in political field and should further expand to other fields, especially economic and commercial.

Chairman Trong said Viet Nam’s investment in Laos will be intensified and its government and agencies will accelerate the implementation of agreements reached by the two countries.
