Vietnamese PM to be head of traffic jam prevention steering board

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will be head of the steering board of traffic congestion prevention and his deputies will be one of Deputy PM, Minister of Planning and Investment, chairmen of People’s Committee in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The PM has approved to set up the steering board to implement measures to resolve traffic jam in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Members of the steering board are leaders of related agencies.
According to the PM, the traffic gridlock in the two big cities is becoming an urgent issue which requires comprehensive measures of planning, traffic system construction, health, education and training along with specific policies.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment was asked to carry out his instruction No. 6731. VPCP-CN on June 29, 2017 on the establishment of the steering board of traffic congestion prevention in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Early in 2017, the PM had a meeting with Hanoi and HCMC authorities to discuss measures against traffic gridlock. At the meeting, he requested HCMC administration to have road map to limit personal motorbikes and enhance public transport vehicles and re-organize transport system.
