VN, UAE target to raise bilateral trade turnover of $10 bil: PM

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expected Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to strive to raise bilateral trade turnover to US$10 billion in next few years.

PM Phuc said at a meeting to receive UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan yesterday at the government office in Hanoi.

PM Phuc confirmed Vietnam always highly appreciated the friendship, relations between the two countries, adding that the cooperation opportunity in infrastructure sector between two sides will have great potential. The move aims to raise two-way trade to US$10 billion in the next few years from the current one of US$6.2 billion.

The PM proposed the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) having response on official Development assistance (ODA) for some projects in the country. In addition, PM Phuc suggested UAE offering more chance for Vietnamese laborers to work in medical facilities in UAE.

On the occasion, through the UAE Minister, the PM sent his invitation and President Tran Dai Quang’s invitation to UAE President Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahayan for an offical visit to Vietnam.

UAE MInister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan lauded the Southeast Asian nation’s socioeconomic achievements expressing that the bilateral relation will develop more. On May 11, at the reception with the Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, the two have talked over measures to boost bilateral cooperation especially in security.

UAE Minister said that UAE President is ready to make an official visit to Vietnam affirming that Vietnam is a good friend.  UAE always expected to cooperate with Vietnam in many fields. UAE will have positive response to ODA projects.
