VND360 bil contributed to building suspension bridges in distant districts

During the program Nhip cau Yeu thuong ( Loving Bridge) held in Hanoi and live broadcast in Vietnam Television yesterday benefactors contributed VND360 billion (US$ 16.8 million) for building suspension bridges in distant and disadvantaged districts.

The program was held by the Ministry of Transport to call for enterprises and benefactors to support the construction of suspension bridges in these rural and mountainous regions.

Transport Minister Dinh La Thang said that the Ministry would build bridges in such places to ensure traffic flow. It is estimated VND8,300 billion (US$ 388.5 million)  for building around  4,145 bridges in 50 provinces.

Due to limited fund, the Ministry has built only 186 suspension bridges in 28 extremely difficult mountainous districts in the North, the Central and the Highlands.

To build the remaining bridges, it needs the contribution of all the community. It is hoped that the amount for the program will be raised more to build all bridges.

Before in a meeting, the Ministry has called for the donation of enterprises in the construction to contribute VND218 billion (US$10.2 million).

These suspension bridges will help improve the living conditions of local inhabitants in disadvantaged districts, the ministry said.
