Waterway traffic must be made safer: Deputy PM

Concerned with the high rate of accidents on waterways, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the People’s Committees of all provinces and cities in the country to carefully check all local hot spots where accidents are likely to take place and remedy the situation immediately.

Concerned with the high rate of accidents on waterways, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the People’s Committees of all provinces and cities in the country to carefully check all local hot spots where accidents are likely to take place and remedy the situation immediately.

Related departments are to timely regulate the flow of waterway traffic whenever there is danger of collision by a ship with a bridge.

Local governments have also been asked to terminate any construction activities along docks and ports or sand and cobblestone mining near bridge supports, as these are probable causes of collisions with bridges.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Security will collaborate with the People’s Committees of all provinces and cities to examine and penalize anyone violating safety regulations along docks and ports, and particularly near ongoing bridge construction sites.
