Websites to Be Set Up without Permission

The supplements of the Decree No.55/2001/NĐ-CP on the management, provision and usage of Internet services will allow users to set up a website without permission, said Mr. Tran Duc Lai, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications.

Newspapers on the net must have a license from the Ministry of Information and Communications to launch their website.

The users must be responsible for the information that they post on a page whether it be on a website in the form of a blog, a column, a report or anything else, he added.

However, newspapers on the net in the fields of policy, economy, and society must have a license from the Ministry of Information and Communications to launch their website.

The Ministry of Information and Communications is in the process of completing the supplements of Decree No.55 to submit to the Prime Minister for approval.

Viet Nam had 1.2 million Internet subscribers last year, which doubled compared to the previous year. Currently, the number of subscribers is 1.51 million. The official statistics show that the whole of Viet Nam has 18.55 million internet users.
