The Party Central Committee’s External Relations Board on April 12 informed ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations in Ha Noi about the upcoming 10th National Party Congress.
At the meeting in Ha Noi, Mr. Vu Khoan, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister, briefed the audience on the preparations, the agenda of the Congress, and important matters which will be discussed at the Congress.
The Congress will take place in Ha Noi from April 18 to 25, 2006 with the participation of almost 1,200 delegates. The Congress will review the implementation of the 9th Congress’ Resolutions, the tasks on socio-economic development in the 2001-2005 period, the reform process over the past 20 years, and the socio-economic development strategy for the 2001-2010 period.
The Congress will also work out the Party’s tasks and development directions; make amendments to the Party statutes; elect the leaders of the Party’s 10th term, Mr. Khoan said. The theme of Congress is to improve the Party’s leadership and combating capacity, bring into full play the whole nation’s strength, promote the renovation process comprehensively, and drive the country out of underdevelopment as soon as possible.
The Deputy Prime Minister said for the national construction target of a rich people, a strong country and a fair, democratic and civilized society, the 9th Party Central Committee will submit to the Congress the goals for national development through 2010, which say Viet Nam will basically become an industrialized country by 2020.
