Initial statistics showed that 8 people were killed and 5 were injured by landslides and flood in the evening of September 17, reported by the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and northern provinces, where typhoon ‘Kalmaegi’ swept.
In particular, six workers were killed in a landslide in Cao Loc district of Lang Son. Most of the unlucky victims are porters of Xuan Cuong Building Company in the area. Because the construction site executes work accompanied with heavy rains and sloping hills, a landslide unexpectedly occurred and buried workers, said Chairman of the People’ Committee of Dong Dang town Nguyen Van Hanh.
In the afternoon of the same day, rescue forces and border guards removed unlucky victims out the scene. The People’s Committee of Cao Loc district supported VND two million for each victim’s families, Xuan Cuong Building Company and the People’s Committee of Lang Son also donated VND five million for victim’s families.
On the same day, a five years old child was killed in a house collapse case in another village of Cao Loc and a student was swept away by flood in Binh Gia district, announced the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention of Lang Son province.
In the related weather news, floodwater level in Lang Son, Quang Ninh rise high yesterday because of heavy rains in upstream waters.
The Central Meteorology Hydrology Forecast Center also reported that because of the influence of the storm circulation, heavy rains caused flood in Thai Binh province and Hai Phong city.
Currently, the northern mountain provinces were shouldered by heavy rains. The rainfall measured at 136- 310 mm in some places like Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Lang son, Co To, Tam Dao, Yen Bai, Mau Son and Phu Thong.
The Northern provinces are predicted to continue to face heavy rains, floods in the upcoming days.
