According to the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center, the cold snap will not only linger in the northern region but also spread to central provinces from today January 13.

International meteorological centers forecast that the mercury will drop to 4-5 degrees Celsius in Sa Pa and 13-14 degrees in Hanoi.

HCMC and the southern region will have showers this late afternoon with the highest temperature of 31 degrees.

At sea, a low pressure zone has passed Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands to locate about 270 kilometers southwest of Song Tu Tay Island early Thursday. It is forecast to head towards Phu Quy Island off the central province of Binh Thuan and weaken.

The zone and the cold front are expected to trigger heavy rainfall in provinces from Quang Nam to Binh Thuan and the Central Highlands from January 13-15.
